Wild Weather Day Wind Snow and Sun

I started my day by taking photos of the FantaFaces feather masks I had made yesterday to put on my Etsy page.

I was going to take more photos of some items from my parent’s estate, but decided to wait.

Just as I got the last item from my outdoor photo studio into the house, I heard a howling wind and turned to see an amazing sight.

The calm, sunny day had suddenly turned in to whirling windy snowy scene.

Wild windy snowy weather

And I mean this happened in just a few seconds after I came stepped inside with my last mask.

That wind would have been a disaster if I had any of my photography items still on the porch when it started blowing!

The snowflakes were swirling and the trees were blowing like crazy. Doesn’t show up so well in a photo, but it was wild!

Then as quickly as it started it ended!

And it became sort of the perfect light to do some more photos. I really wanted to try out my new camera’s Macro capacity on some jewelry items.

So I did a quick set-up and learned a few lessons.

Don’t wear a RED shirt when photographing shiny, reflective objects!

Red Shirt Reflected on estate Jewelry

I did get much more detail in the items, and the color of the stones came out much more true. I didn’t realize until I downloaded the photos just how wearing a red shirt caused me some problems. It reflected many places on these shiny items, making some interesting arty photos, but not very accurate for posting on ETSY for sale.

Though a few items I had never gotten a good detail photo of came out better than ever before.

Vintage Cameo Necklace and Rhinestones

I had tried to get a detail photo of the cameo so many times, and it never showed a face, just a blur. And the Rhinestones came out truer in color than I had ever seen before. Though that red shirt did affect some of the stones a bit, and where the green on the pearl at the bottom of the cameo is a mystery of where it came from.

I also used some different background materials, none of which really made me as happy as the ones I usually use, but was in an experimental mood with this photo shoot today on many levels.

Just need to keep practicing with the camera, and figure out how to use my new flexible stand to hold the camera. May need to figure out how to use a screen to keep colors in nearby items from showing up on shiny objects. Still, I felt the session was more successful than many I had had in the past for being able to get close-up of jewelry items.

And I also got quite a bit done working on the Structured Water book today and packed two FantaFaces masks that did sell on ETSY this weekend. Then put four of the six masks I made yesterday on ETSY, and have 2 more to take to the Commonwheel Gallery tomorrow.

Plus got in a very short walk with a friend who stopped by to say hello. And just as we headed back to the house, the wind came up again and a bit more snow fell upon the ground, but we were back at the house before it got too windy.
